The Urban Dhaba, Lucknow

At Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

Me and my family were planning out dinner and searched for a restro in Zomato, which serves amazing vegetarian food.

Based on the user ratings, menu and ambience, we decided to go for Urban Dhaba.

This place has a unique theme and ambience, which surely can attract a lot of people.

Here, we ordered Nest Vegetables (Crispy Vegetables), Dahi ke Kebabs, Executive Thali [Veg], Chinese Thali [Veg], Virgin Mojito & Blue Shoe.

Dahi ke Kebabs: I never usually try out Veg kebabs in a restro but this one turned out to be pretty good surprisingly. The kebabs were soft and tasted great!

Nest Vegetables (Crispy Vegetables): It is basically prepared with a choice of vegetables like, mushroom, baby corn, broccoli and cauliflower which is deep-fried with plain flour and corn flour batter. Here, the nest refers to the base of Fried Crunchy Noodles. The veggies were on the top. Well, I’ve had a lot of Crispy Veggies before, but the one served here ruined my palate. It was way too spicy and soggy. I would not recommend this.

Executive Thali [Veg]: This thali consisted of Paneer Gravy, Dry Veg, Dal Tadka, Veg Biryani, Salad, Sweets, Raita, 2 Baby Naan & Achaar. After the horrible Chinese starter, I hoped that the Thalis would be better. But again, this thali wasn’t any good. The Paneer Gravy, Dry veg & Dal Tadka had way too much salt and was flavourless. I mean seriously, even Dal Tadka is a basic dish which could have been good atleast. Raita was too sour as the curd used was not fresh at all. What a disaster.

Chinese Thali [Veg]: It consisted of Veg Noodles, Fried Rice, Chilli Paneer, Manchurian & Chinese Salad. The noodles and rice were ok. But again, Chilli Paneer & Manchurian were fiery. No taste at all as the taste buds were on fire because of the high amount of chilli the dishes had. After having the dishes which ruins your tastes, you take a good drink/ mocktail to forget about the disasters you have faced on your palate and revamp the mood, but here, things just worsened.

Virgin Mojito & Blue Shoe: I may be stupid to order a Virgin Mojito in a Dhaba themed restro but it was the only drink I thought could cleanse my palate. The mojito served here didn’t taste like Virgin Mojito, it was more of a diluted Pudin Hara drink. The mint syrup’s quantity was higher in this, making it not edible.

Then I had another mocktail, named Blue Shoe which was another disappointment.

The service was average.

Also, I saw a card on our table which said, “Give us a 5-star rating on Zomato and get a free dessert!”. No wonder why this place has good ratings, which isn’t genuine at all.

I used my Zomato Gold offer and got Dahi Ke Kebabs for free and coincidently the only dish which was actually good here.

CONCLUSION:

Food: 2/5 Ambience: 3/5 Service: 3/5

TBFC's SCORE: 2.5/5

This place was way too much hyped for its Thalis on all of Social Media but it turned out to be a disastrous experience.

For best veg thalis, try Shree Rajbhog instead.

P.S. - This review is according to my experience. It may differ from person to person.
